What is it tunes to? The box is a little to big for that sub, but not outrageous. The 8W3 (by JL Specs) wants .34 tunes right around 35hz. Anything lower than that could be dangerous with that small sub. I have two 8w3s and they are incredible speakers sound to value wise. you should be good. I wouldn't set you amp higher than 150-200w due to being a "little" larger ported enclosure. Good luck!

Try this sight. He will design based out your vehicle and what you want to get from your subs, i.e, SQ, smooth roll off, SPL. He will even build and ship it. With those 12W3, you need 1.125 sealed and 1.75 ported tuned I'm assuming in the low to mid 30's. You might be able to find a ported enclosure around the 1.75 but the tuning will be in the mid to high 40's (mostly). You can always call a local cabinet builder and ask if they can help you. Be a lot cheaper than having one shipped. JL is pretty spot on with there enclosures. Worse case I'll build you a box and ship it to you for the cost of the wood and shipping (I'm a carpenter, tools and a cast understanding of wood I have plenty of). We all deserve good sound. :-)

I just looked up that amp. I'm guessing 120X2 and maybe 750/1. So you could go with the 13W6. But you've made such good choices speaker wise why would you use that amp. JL makes a 750/1 and a 600/4 HD amps. I've read in other post those Hifonic amps are kinda dirty. And the price of something that large just seems too low. I've never use one so I'll admit I'm skeptical just based on all of my reading. If it works for you awesome.

If you goto JL's website and look at the new releases planed for spring. The new JX amps are now going to be class D also. So they should start being more efficient and cooler. Nice.

The JX is a Class A/B they will run hot especially at a 2 ohm load.

If you are going to go with a dual voice coil and 2 seperate channel to run it. You might want to look into Steve Mead's new CC-1. It allows you to gain match amps and , wait for it, match x-over points. Not only could you use two seperate channels of the same amp to run the sub, you could use two freakin seperate amps and match their gains and x-over points. It's pretty bad ass. How many sets of RCAs do you have going back to it.. I have the same amp. There is a 2/4 channel switch on it. If you only have 2 RCAs going to it no sound will come out unless you have it switched to two channel. I ended up having to split the set of RCAs and run one to every channel. Simple answer, check the 2/4 switch

I listened to both a lot with music I was really familiar with. I really was impressed I mean really, with the hertz, but JL just won my over. They seem to have a nice neutral sound and decently agressive midbass when needed. I figured something uncolored and not "peaky" was what I needed to start my system right. Nice neutral platform on which to build. Either way you can't loose right?

I, for some reason, totally missed this build log... You have some mad skills and a hell of a lot more time than me Scooter. Seriously i liked looking at the pics to get an idea on how to integrate materials together. I am blown away by the skill and attention to detail. I'm glad Trojan Fan is gone. They Ipad has no Firmware for an input signal. Basically there is absolutely no way to do it... unless you hack your ipad2 remove the back camera and mount it out back. Then again you might be able to turn your car into a hot spot and maybe do something that way...or maybe Bluetooth camera might work

Apple lossless or wma are you best bets.
