curious as to whether or not building a box to spec according to the manufacturer is the "best bang" method...
i have two 12w3v3's and want to put one in a ported, and the other in a sealed enclosure. I've always built sealed enclosures for their accuracy, but I've recently been intrigued by the amount of boom a ported box can produce.
JL's website has recommended specs for each box, but I know that by tweaking airspace and other properties you can achieve different results. I am looking for something tight but LOUD and able to hit lows in a sealed enclosure, and something controlled but boomy with the ported enclosure. I guess I want the best of both worlds, which i know can be hard to attain.
can anyone either suggest some software or maybe even draft up a couple designs?! the only really limiting dimension in my trunk is the height, but if you keep it under 14" outside dimension it'll fit.
other info: JL Audio 12w3v3 4-ohm subwoofer, running 500w RMS on a JL Audio 500/1v2 monoblock.
i've tried using Sketchup but just find myself flustered and pulling out my drafting tools. haha I'm confident anything you design I can build, but simplicity and functionality are priority number one!
