Summer heat permanent iPad install

Doug's new dash looks amazing. I want to do a similar permanent install. But I park outside at work. Will the ipad work in a hot car at the end of the day? Or am I better off going removable?

Apple lists operating temps on their site as 32 to 95 degrees F. you should be good, I've seen hard disk ipods not work becasue of temp but never Iphone/Ipad/Ipod touch in my own expirence...just get some tints

Depends how hot it gets. Cause i live in southern UT and it gets hot here. I had to wait for my ipad to cool down ALOT after wakeboarding! But that is also considering it gets to about 110 degrees here in the summer.

i've seen a few ipod touches get too hot and warning image comes on the screen saying it needs to cool down. rout an AC vent so it blows on the back of the ipad and just make a few vents right above your ipad for the air to get out. that way you can cool it off with AC and it wont get too hot from charging all the time either

^^thats a great idea, but the vents above the ipad are unnecessary, dashboards have plenty of nooks and crannies, but I'm trying that next chance I get, it would be easy to install a small "air scoop" inside of a current vent then rout a hose behind the ipad

It is a great idea. But I'm not sure how effective it would be, just to the fact that the iPad holds heat very well. When I left my iPad in my truck while I was at the lake, I took it you of my bezel and held it in front of the ac vent. It was almost too hot to hold. By the time It cooled down I was already or close to my destination. About 15 min drive.

you could try liquid cooled but that would be a whole other project in its self.
you could use a computer liquid cooling kit and make a special sealed area on the back of the ipad for the liquid to run across the back of the ipad without damaging it and then you would have to have a small radiatior just for that and a location to put it with a fan.
All in all though i honestly dont think you would have an issue with over heating at all

just thought of an issue with routing a vent to the back of the ipad. If you live somewhere that you use the heater alot you would need a way to close the ipad vent so you're not blowing super hot air on it during the winter

not necessarily, if your cold, then your ipad is cold. and since it will work up to 95 degreed F, and no car heaters get that hot it shouldnt really be an issue unless your on a long road trip...you could always remove it until the weather heats up

My kid's iPod touches have given them the over-temp warning, but this was from leaving them in the direct sunlight. While stuff certainly gets hot in the car in the summer, keeping it out of the sun might help (fashion a simple cover maybe?) We've never had the over-temp warning when stashing those things in the glovebox.
